Crazy Than You

Updated: Sep 3

After a yummy brunch and making most of the sun, only way to finish off our holidays would a trip to the zoo in the Phoenix Park. The following evening, the perfect way to spend it, was firstly by having a milkshake to quench ourselves from the sun followed by heading to Bord Gais Energy theatre to see the touring production of the Addams Family. The show was so satirically funny, the set itself was unreal, so much so that I've not being that impressed by a set in such a long time and the cast were ideally cast in each of the roles especially with Carrie Hope Fletcher as Wednesday who has such an unbelievable voice and can't wait to see her in other roles in the future. Later on in the week, there was no better way to spend the morning of my day off then visiting the National Gallery to checkout the Vermeer and the Masters of genre painting exhibition after which I followed this by walking around the gallery's permanent collection.

As part of National Heritage Week, I was able to do 1017-2017 Walking Tour, which thanks to historian Mike Neill who gave a short of Christchurch Cathedral before heading to and accessing St. Werburgh's Church nearby which was the main reason for me doing this tour as I've always wanted to see the inside of this church and hear the history of it. After watching the Pearse Lyons Distillery at the old St. James church on James street take shape over the past few years, it was nice to finally see the inside of the finished working distillery and the surrounding area around the church and graveyard. The tour showcased the History in the remaking of the building, whiskey of the area and the main event sampling the whiskey itself. Although Paddy himself isn't a drinker or in particular a whiskey one, he enjoyed the tour but I think he nearly enjoyed trying on stuff in the gift shop more so.

Unlike me, the next weeks after the tour of the whiskey distillery, I was relatively quiet as was busy with work and there wasn't much show or tour wise I wanted to go see or do, until Mid-September, when it was time for Tuesday evening saver tickets to see a show in Bord Gais. This week it was a Broadway musical by the Gershwin Brothers, Crazy for You, staring Caroline Flack and Tom Chambers, both previous winners of Strictly Come Dancing. The musical tells a tale of mistaken identities, plot twists, heartbreak, happiness and a wealth of memorable tunes, including I Got Rhythm, The Cant't Take That Away From Me, Nice Work If You Can Get It and Embraceable You. This musical is a exhilarating celebration of great Broadway musicals and definitely not a bad way to spend a Tuesday evening. As part of Culture Night, Niamh, Paddy and me got to enjoy a private tour of the Guinness Storehouse, home of Guinness, which culminated wit a tasting panel at the Gravity bar with a beautiful view of Dublin at night however poor Paddy, the true lover of Guinness couldn't sample any as he was on strong antibiotics which made for an unhappy boy. The following week, thanks to a last minute treat from Clare, Niamh and me got to experience a beautiful meal at the Marker Hotel with a tasty bottle of white wine helped too, which was the perfect pick me up after a long trying week. The next day, finally got a chance to have a quick look and check out Oktoberfest which was turning into our annual excursion to sample the German beer and entertainment.
